Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

The androgen receptor (AR) is a member of the steroid-hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. It is a ligand-activated transcription factor that binds active testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Upon ligand binding, the receptor dissociates from accessory proteins, translocates into the nucleus, dimerizes, and stimulates transcription of androgen-responsive genes.
AR signaling is critical for male reproductive organ development and also functions in nonreproductive tissues such as muscle, hair follicles, and brain. Abnormalities in AR signaling are associated with diseases including prostate cancer, Kennedy’s disease, and male infertility. Mutations in the AR gene can cause complete androgen insensitivity (CAIS).
