Target Information
The STAT5 beta protein is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. Upon cytokine or growth factor stimulation, STAT proteins are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases and form homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus to act as transcription activators.
STAT5 beta mediates signal transduction triggered by ligands such as IL2, IL4, CSF1, and various growth hormones. It is involved in processes including TCR signaling, apoptosis, mammary gland development, and sexual dimorphism of liver gene expression.
Abnormal STAT5 beta signaling has been associated with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APLL) due to gene fusion with RARA.
