Target Information
An EST for GPR120 has been isolated from a human colon cancer library.
G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) comprise one of the largest families of signaling molecules, with more than a thousand members predicted to exist. All GPCRs share a structural motif consisting of seven membrane-spanning helices and exist in both active and inactive forms.
Various activating ligands induce conformational changes in GPCRs, triggering signaling via G-proteins and downstream effectors. Studies have also shown mechanisms involved in the negative regulation of GPCRs, which have significant implications for cellular physiology and pharmacological research.
Notably, GPCR-targeted drugs such as Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough) have achieved major success in the mental health and allergy treatment markets.
