Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes a well-defined epitope (W40, R-53) on CD59 (Protectin), an 18–20 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on all hematopoietic cells and widely present in various tissues.
It does not compete with MEM-43/5 and exhibits blocking activity.

Target Information

CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC).
It prevents autologous cell lysis by binding complement components C8 and/or C9, inhibiting pore formation.
CD59 also acts as a low-affinity ligand for CD2, contributing to T cell costimulation and signal transduction.
Mutations in CD59 can lead to deficiency syndromes associated with hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants of CD59 have been identified.
