This antibody reacts with an extracellular/luminal epitope of CD63 (LAMP-3), a 40–60 kDa tetraspan glycoprotein expressed by granulocytes, platelets, T cells, monocytes/macrophages, and endothelial cells.
Cell surface expression of CD63 is typically activation-dependent.

Target Information

CD63 (LAMP-3, lysosome-associated membrane protein-3) is a tetraspanin family glycoprotein present in late endosomes, lysosomes, and secretory vesicles of various cell types.
It is also expressed on the plasma membrane following cell activation, making it a widely used basophil activation marker.
In mast cells, CD63 expression occurs independently of activation.

CD63 interacts with integrins, influences phagocytosis and cell migration, and is involved in H/K-ATPase trafficking and ROMK1 channel regulation.
It also functions as a T-cell costimulatory molecule.
Expression levels of CD63 can serve as a prognostic indicator in early-stage carcinomas.

CD63 is expressed on activated platelets and translocates to the plasma membrane upon platelet activation.
It is also found in monocytes, macrophages, and weakly in granulocytes, B, and T cells.
CD63 is identical to the melanoma-associated antigen ME491 and platelet antigen PTLGP40.
Dysfunction of CD63 is associated with melanoma and Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
