Target Information

In eukaryotes, the phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of proteins on serine and threonine residues regulate essential cellular functions such as division, homeostasis, and apoptosis. Protein phosphatases are key components in this process. The protein phosphatase (PP) holoenzyme is a trimeric complex composed of a regulatory subunit, a variable subunit, and a catalytic subunit. Four major families of catalytic subunits are identified: PP1, PP2A, PP2B (calcineurin), and PP2C. The PP2A family includes PP2A alpha and PP2A beta subfamily members, while PPX (PP4) represents a putative novel PP family.
