Major PP catalytic subunit families include PP1, PP2A, PP2B (calcineurin), and PP2C, with PPX (PP4) as an additional putative family member. The PP2A family comprises subfamilies PP2A alpha and PP2A beta, which associate with various regulatory subunits such as PP2A-A alpha/beta, PP2A-B alpha/beta, PP2A-C alpha/beta, and PP2A-B56 alpha/beta.
