Target Information
MAP2K3 (MEK3) is a dual-specificity protein kinase involved in cellular signal transduction pathways and is necessary for the expression of glucose transporter. It phosphorylates and activates MAPK14/p38-MAPK. MEK3 can be activated by insulin and is associated with RAS oncogene expression leading to constitutive activation of MAPK14, contributing to oncogenic transformation. Inhibition of this kinase is implicated in the pathogenesis of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported for MEK3.
