Product Specific Information

The MFL3 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse Fas (CD95) Ligand, a 40 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein. FasL is a member of the TNF family expressed by mouse activated T cells. Interaction of FasL with its receptor CD95 induces Fas-mediated killing. Human FasL can be cleaved by MMPs into a 26 kDa soluble form; sensitivity for mouse antigen to MMPs has not been reported.

Target Information

CD178 (Fas ligand, FasL) is a type-II membrane protein with its N-terminus in the cytoplasm and C-terminal region extending extracellularly. Its receptor, FasR, is a type-I membrane protein in the TNF/NGF receptor family. CD178 induces apoptosis upon binding to FasR. It exists as membrane-bound (45 kDa) or soluble (26 kDa) forms, the latter generated by metalloproteinase cleavage. CD178 is expressed in activated T-lymphocytes, NK cells, and immune-privileged tissues (testis, eye). Expression also occurs in thymus, liver, ovary, lung, heart, and kidney. CD178-mediated apoptosis is involved in antiviral immune responses and immune regulation. Dysregulation of the Fas/CD178 system is linked to diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, cancer, atherosclerosis, and inflammatory disorders.
