Target Information
The BCL2L12 gene encodes a member of the Bcl-2 family containing a BH2 domain. The encoded protein functions as an anti-apoptotic factor, inhibiting caspases 3 and 7 in the cytoplasm. In the nucleus, it binds to the p53 tumor suppressor protein, preventing its association with target genes. Overexpression has been observed in various cancers. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 3, and alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
