Ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase activase (Rubisco activase) is an enzyme localized to chloroplasts that activates Rubisco by promoting ATP-dependent conformational changes.
Alternative name: RuBisCo activase (RCA).
- Two forms of activase (alpha and beta) exist in some species (e.g., Arabidopsis, Camelina, Spinach, Rice).
- Other species (Tobacco, Maize, Chlamydomonas) have only one form, typically the beta form.
- Alpha form: ~46–47 kDa
