Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is essential in plasma lipid metabolism and is a component of various lipoprotein-lipid particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, with high concentrations in interstitial fluids. ApoE facilitates cholesterol transport between cells and is crucial in the formation of very low-density lipoproteins and chylomicrons. The ApoE gene is located on chromosome 19 at position 19q13.2.
