Target Information
NGAL (Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, lipocalin 2, siderocalin, and neutrophil lipocalin) is a 25 kDa glycosylated single-chain monomer and a member of the lipocalin family. It binds and transports small lipophilic molecules and is released by activated neutrophils. NGAL can form dimers and oligomers and complexes with matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9, gelatinase B). Expression increases in inflammation or cancers, and is notably elevated in kidneys following ischemic or nephrotoxic injury.
