Target Information

The kelch-repeat protein family is a newly identified group of actin-binding proteins characterized by tandemly arranged motifs of about 50 amino acids. Most members are cytoskeletal proteins involved in various cellular processes such as actin cytoskeleton interaction, cytoplasmic sequestration of transcription factors, and cell morphology.
KLHL5, a novel kelch-like protein gene discovered during the sequencing of a human fetal brain cDNA library, shows high identity with Drosophila kelch and other family members. A novel splicing variant, KLHL5b, has been identified and expressed in multiple tissues.
