Target Information
The Golgi apparatus participates in glycosylation and transport of proteins and lipids in the secretory pathway. It consists of stacked cisternae and interacts with microtubules, which is important for Golgi reorganization during mitosis. The Golgin A5 protein, a coiled-coil membrane protein of the golgin family, is implicated in vesicle tethering and docking. Translocations involving this gene and the RET proto-oncogene have been identified in tumor tissues, forming chimeric sequences designated RET-II and PTC5.
