Product Specific Information
This antibody detects recombinant and native IL-6 present in body fluids and cell supernatants in various assays (e.g., IL-1 stimulated IL-6 production from fibroblasts).
In Western blot analysis of natural cell products or human body fluids, multiple bands of IL-6 will appear due to variable glycosylation on the molecule.
Target Information
IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation.
The protein acts as an endogenous pyrogen that induces fever in autoimmune diseases or infections.
IL-6 is expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into serum, and triggers transcriptional inflammatory responses via the interleukin 6 receptor alpha.
It is implicated in inflammation-associated diseases such as diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Elevated IL-6 levels have been observed in viral infections, including COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).
Diseases associated with IL-6 include Kaposi Sarcoma and Rheumatoid Arthritis (Systemic Juvenile).
