Target Information
DNA replication, recombination, and repair, all essential for genomic stability, require exonucleases. In DNA replication, these enzymes process Okazaki fragments; in DNA repair, they excise damaged DNA and correct mismatches. DNA polymerases alpha, beta, delta, and epsilon are key to these processes. DNA polymerase delta and epsilon are multisubunit enzymes; delta includes subunits p125 (interacting with PCNA) and p50. DNA polymerase gamma replicates mitochondrial DNA. DNA polymerase zeta is widely expressed and mediates damage-induced mutagenesis, while DNA polymerase theta functions as a polymerase-helicase involved in interstrand crosslink repair.
