Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, which regulates cellular processes such as growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
PTPN7 is preferentially expressed in various hematopoietic cells and acts as an early response gene in lymphokine-stimulated cells.
Its noncatalytic N-terminus interacts with MAP kinases to suppress their activity and plays a role in T cell antigen receptor signaling via dephosphorylation of MAP kinase pathway-related molecules.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
