Target Information
UBA2 is involved in the covalent attachment of one protein to another, a key posttranslational modification process. Ubiquitin is the most familiar of these protein modifiers, and its activation and transfer have been well studied. Recently, SUMO (Sentrin) proteins have gained attention for their roles in stabilizing target proteins and mediating subcellular localization.
The conjugation of SUMO-1, SUMO-2, and SUMO-3 to target proteins requires the coordinated action of E1-activating enzyme SAE1/SAE2, E2-conjugating enzyme Ubc9, and E3-like SUMO ligase.
