Target Information
GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis, existing as a tetramer of identical 37 kDa subunits. It catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.
Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH participates in:
- DNA replication and repair
- Nuclear RNA export
- Membrane fusion and microtubule bundling
- Gene expression in apoptosis and neurodegenerative processes
GAPDH interacts with amyloid precursor protein (implicated in Alzheimer’s disease) and Huntingtin protein (Huntington’s disease). Due to high expression in most tissues, it serves as a reliable loading control in Western blot analysis.
