Target Information
GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis. It exists as a tetramer of identical 37-kDa subunits and catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH. Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH is ubiquitously expressed and participates in diverse cellular processes such as:
- DNA replication and repair
- Nuclear RNA export
- Membrane fusion and microtubule bundling
- Gene expression regulation during apoptosis
- Cellular processes in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer
GAPDH interacts with several proteins, including amyloid precursor protein (linked to Alzheimer’s disease) and Huntingtin (linked to Huntington’s disease). Due to its high expression in most tissues, GAPDH is widely used as a protein loading control in Western blot analysis.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
