Target Information
C/EBP α regulates gene expression in various tissues including liver, adipose, lung, and intestine. It binds DNA using a bipartite structural motif, where two protein chains dimerize through amphipathic α helices forming a leucine zipper. Basic polypeptide regions extend from the zipper to create DNA contact surfaces. C/EBP α functions mainly in terminally differentiated, growth-arrested cells. Family members include C/EBP β, γ, δ, and ε, which share similar DNA-binding specificities and can form heterodimers with C/EBP α.
