Target Information

TRPV4 (Transient Receptor Potential Cation Channel Subfamily V Member 4) is a cation-selective channel activated in response to systemic osmotic pressure. It functions as a non-selective calcium-permeant cation channel involved in osmotic sensitivity and mechanosensitivity.
TRPV4 belongs to the OSM9-like transient receptor potential channel (OTRPC) subfamily within the TRP superfamily of ion channels. The TRPV4 protein is thought to regulate systemic osmotic pressure.
Mutations in the TRPV4 gene are associated with spondylometaphyseal and metatropic dysplasia, as well as hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy type IIC. Diseases linked to TRPV4 include Metatropic Dysplasia and Spondylometaphyseal Dysplasia (Kozlowski Type). Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
