Target Information
MEI1 (Meiosis inhibitor protein 1), also known as Meiosis defective protein 1, is a 1274 amino acid protein crucial for the formation of genetically programmed double-strand breaks, initiating meiosis. Predominantly expressed in testis, MEI1 gene defects may lead to male infertility due to meiotic arrest. Genetic variations in MEI1 are associated with infertility in certain populations. Human MEI1 shares 79% sequence similarity with its mouse homolog and has seven isoforms resulting from alternative splicing.
