Target Information
Arylsulfatase F (ARSF) is a 590 amino acid secretory protein belonging to the sulfatase family of bone and cartilage matrix proteins. It uses calcium as a cofactor to catalyze reactions important for bone composition. Unlike Arylsulfatase E, ARSF activity is not inhibited by warfarin.
The ARSF gene maps to human chromosome X, which spans about 153 million base pairs and contains over 1,000 genes. Abnormalities in sex chromosomes can lead to conditions such as Turner’s syndrome, color blindness, hemophilia, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
