Target Information
Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are complex ion channels with diverse physiological roles, including regulation of neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume.
Four sequence-related potassium channel genes—shaker, shaw, shab, and shal—have been identified in Drosophila, each with human homologs.
The KCND3 gene encodes a member of the voltage-gated, shal-related potassium channel subfamily, forming A-type potassium ion channels important in the repolarization phase of the action potential.
This gene produces two isoforms via alternatively spliced transcript variants.
