Target Information
ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) is a key protein involved in autophagy and apoptosis. It participates in mitochondrial quality control, regulation of antiviral immune responses, lymphocyte development, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation. Upon conjugation with ATG12, it contributes to autophagosome formation and autophagic cell death by interacting with FADD. The ATG5-ATG12 complex also modulates innate immune signaling by inhibiting type I interferon production, facilitating viral replication. Dysfunction of ATG5 is associated with diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia.
