Claudin-5는 클라우딘(claudin) 패밀리에 속하는 막 단백질로, tight junction strand의 주요 구성 요소입니다. Tight junction은 상피세포 또는 내피세포 간의 세포 간극을 통한 용질 및 수분의 비자유로운 이동을 차단하며, 세포 극성 유지 및 신호 전달에 중요한 역할을 합니다. Claudin-5의 발현은 유방암, 난소암, 간세포암, 요로종양, 전립선암, 폐암, 두경부암, 갑상선암 등 다양한 암종에서 차이를 보입니다. 또한, 대체 스플라이싱에 의해 서로 다른 isoform이 존재합니다.
