Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors.
E2F family proteins regulate cell cycle progression and interact with tumor suppressor proteins.
They contain conserved domains including:
- DNA binding domain
- Dimerization domain (interacts with DP proteins)
- Transactivation domain (acidic amino acid-rich)
- Tumor suppressor association domain
- Cyclin binding domain (in E2F1, E2F2, and E2F3)
E2F1 binds preferentially to retinoblastoma protein (pRB) in a cell-cycle dependent manner, mediating both cell proliferation and p53-dependent/independent apoptosis.
