Target Information
Serotonin plays a major role in cardiovascular and gastrointestinal functions, acting through G protein-coupled 5-HT (SR) receptors.
SR-2 receptors include SR-2A, SR-2B, and SR-2C subtypes:
- SR-2A: Involved in tracheal smooth muscle contraction, bronchoconstriction, and aldosterone production; associated with psychiatric disorders such as depression and schizophrenia.
- SR-2B: Expressed in cardiovascular tissues, gut, and brain; important in cardiac pathology.
- SR-2C: Mediates effects of atypical antipsychotic drugs.
