Target Information
Guanylate cyclase-activating proteins (GCAPs) are calcium-binding proteins belonging to the calmodulin superfamily. GCAPs without calcium activate photoreceptor guanylate cyclase during light adaptation. Calcium addition or removal induces conformational changes that activate or deactivate GCAP-1 and GCAP-2. Both forms act similarly on guanylate cyclase with approximately 50% homology. GCAP-1 is mainly localized in photoreceptor outer segments, whereas GCAP-2 is found in retina samples.
