Target Information
N-cadherin is a 140 kDa transmembrane protein that mediates calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. It belongs to the cadherin family, which regulates morphogenetic movements and cell surface adhesion through homotypic interactions. N-cadherin interacts with the actin cytoskeleton via catenin proteins, and this association is modulated by phosphorylation of beta-catenin. The protein features five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It plays a critical role during gastrulation and is essential for establishing left-right asymmetry.
