Target Information
N-cadherin is a 140 kDa transmembrane protein belonging to the cadherin family, mediating calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. It plays a key role in morphogenetic movements during development and regulates cell adhesion through homotypic interactions. The function of N-cadherin depends on its association with the actin cytoskeleton via interactions between its C-terminal region and cytoplasmic catenin proteins. This association is regulated by phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of beta-catenin. N-cadherin contains five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane domain, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail, functioning in gastrulation and left-right asymmetry establishment.
