Target Information

This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While all hnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The hnRNP-K protein contains three KH domains that bind RNAs and shows a strong preference for poly(C). It is also implicated in cell cycle progression. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described but not all are fully characterized.
