hnRNP-K 유전자는 광범위하게 발현되는 heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) 아단위군에 속합니다.
hnRNPs는 RNA 결합 단백질로 heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA)와 복합체를 형성합니다.
이들은 pre-mRNA 처리 및 mRNA 대사, 수송 과정에 관여하며 일부는 핵과 세포질 사이를 이동합니다.
hnRNP-K 단백질은 핵질(nucleoplasm)에 위치하며, RNA 결합 KH 도메인을 3개 가지고 있고 poly(C)에 강하게 결합하는 특성을 지닙니다.
세포 주기 진행 과정에도 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있으며, 여러 가지 대체 스플라이싱 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
