Target Information

This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While most hnRNPs are nuclear, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The hnRNP-K protein has three KH domains that bind RNA and shows a strong preference for poly(C). It may play a role in cell cycle progression. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, although not all are fully characterized.
