Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the BCL-2 protein family. Members of this family form hetero- or homodimers and act as regulators of apoptosis, either promoting or inhibiting cell death.
This protein contains conserved BH4, BH1, and BH2 domains, and interacts with other BCL-2 family members including BCL2, BCL2L1/BCL-X(L), and BAX.
Overexpression may suppress cell apoptosis by preventing cytochrome C release from mitochondria and inhibiting caspase-3 activation.
In mouse, this protein interacts with Apaf1 and forms a complex with Caspase 9, suggesting involvement in APAF1 and CASPASE 9-related apoptotic pathways.
