Product Specific Information
- In direct ELISAs and Western blots, approximately 25% cross-reactivity with recombinant mouse GDF-6 is observed.
- Less than 5% cross-reactivity is observed with rmGDF-1, rmGDF-3, rmGDF-8, rmGDF-9, recombinant human GDF-11, and rhGDF-15.
- Reconstitute at 0.2 mg/mL in sterile PBS.
Target Information
GDF-5 is expressed in long bones during embryonic development and postnatally in articular cartilage.
Mutations in the GDF-5 gene are implicated in Hunter-Thompson type dwarfism and Grebe Syndrome, characterized by short stature, extra digits, and deformed extremities.
The mature form of GDF-5 is a homodimer of two 120 amino-acid polypeptide chains linked by a single disulfide bond.
Each monomer is expressed as the C-terminal part of a precursor containing a 27 amino acid signal peptide and a 354 amino acid propeptide.
This precursor undergoes intracellular dimerization and is processed by a furin-type protease upon secretion.
