Target Information
STING is a 379 amino acid signaling protein that acts as a key component of innate immune signaling. It activates NF-kappa-B and IRF3 transcription pathways to induce type I interferon (IFN-α and IFN-β) expression, leading to a potent antiviral state. STING may also function as a translocon, influencing interferon induction and apoptotic signaling via association with MHC-II. It facilitates detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA, and mediates death signaling through activation of the ERK pathway. STING is typically localized in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, and is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
