Product Specific Information
This B97 monoclonal antibody reacts with human lactoferrin, an 80-kDa glycoprotein detectable in kidney, lung, pancreas, gallbladder, prostate, seminal vesicle, gut, and liver. Lactoferrin is present in mucosal secretions such as breast milk, tears, and saliva. In immune cells, high levels of lactoferrin are found within neutrophil secondary granules.
Lactoferrin, a member of the transferrin family, binds two iron molecules to mediate iron transport and storage. It plays a key role in host defense and regulation of adaptive immune responses. Receptors for lactoferrin are found on lymphocytes, granulocytes, monocytes, mast cells, epithelial, and endothelial cells.
Applications Reported:
- Immunoblotting (WB)
- Immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections
Applications Tested:
- High pH antigen retrieval immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded human infiltrating ductal carcinoma
- Western blot on reduced human saliva lysate
Recommended concentrations:
- IHC ≤ 10 µg/mL
- WB ≤ 1 µg/mL
Careful titration is recommended for optimal assay performance.
Purity: >90% (SDS-PAGE)
Aggregation: <10% (HPLC)
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered
Target Information
Lactoferrin (LF) is an iron-binding glycoprotein (~80 kDa) composed of a single polypeptide chain folded into two homologous lobes, each binding one ferric ion (Fe³⁺). It is found in milk and mucosal secretions and is a major component of neutrophil secondary granules.
LF exhibits diverse biological functions:
- Regulation of iron homeostasis
- Host defense against microbial infections
- Anti-inflammatory activity
- Regulation of cellular growth and differentiation
- Protection against cancer development and metastasis
Lactoferrin acts as a first line of defense by sequestering Fe³⁺ and also possesses bactericidal and proteolytic activities. Three isoforms (LTF-α, LTF-β, LTF-γ) have been identified. Receptors for LTF are expressed in the gastrointestinal tract, macrophages, lymphocytes, neutrophils, platelets, and some bacteria.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
