Target Information
Uridylyltransferase that mediates terminal uridylation of mRNAs with short poly(A) tails, facilitating global mRNA decay. Essential for oocyte maturation and fertility. Involved in miRNA-induced gene silencing through uridylation of deadenylated miRNA targets and regulation of miRNA biogenesis. Acts as a suppressor of miRNA biogenesis by mediating terminal uridylation of pre-let-7, preventing Dicer processing and promoting degradation. Functions redundantly with TUT4 in shaping pre-miRNA ends for efficient processing and in restricting LINE-1 retrotransposition through RNA uridylation mechanisms.
