Target Information
Uridylyltransferase that mediates the terminal uridylation of mRNAs with short (less than 25 nucleotides) poly(A) tails, facilitating global mRNA decay. Essential for oocyte maturation and fertility. Involved in microRNA-induced gene silencing and regulation of microRNA biogenesis through multiple uridylation mechanisms. Functions as a suppressor of miRNA biogenesis by mediating terminal uridylation of pre-let-7 RNA, preventing Dicer processing and promoting degradation. Works redundantly with TUT4 to regulate transcript stability and restrict retrotransposition of LINE-1 elements.
