Product Specific Information
This antibody is specific for the ~22 kDa Claudin-2 protein and does not appear to cross-react with related endogenous proteins. Reactivity was confirmed by western blotting with rat kidney and by immunostaining of rat small intestine. This antibody is confirmed reactive with human, rat, and dog Claudin-2. The reactivity with other species has not been determined.
Target Information
Tight junctions are specialized regions of cell-cell contact, abundant in luminal epithelial sheets. These junctions function as molecular gaskets preventing leakage of ions and molecules between cells. They also maintain epithelial polarity by blocking diffusion of membrane proteins between apical and basolateral surfaces. Claudin-1 and Claudin-2 are key structural components of tight junction strands, connecting to the actin cytoskeleton through ZO-1. Claudin-2 acts as a paracellular channel with cation (Na⁺) selectivity, mainly expressed in liver and kidney, with minor presence in brain.
