Target Information
Cellular senescence is the terminal non-dividing state that normal cells enter after completing their proliferative potential. Fusions of immortal human cell lines have led to classification into four complementation groups. Mortality factor 4 (MORF4) is the lead member of a family of transcription factor-like proteins that reverses the immortal phenotype. MORF4 localizes to the nucleus and contains transcription factor-like motifs such as helix-loop-helix and leucine zipper, enabling formation of transcriptionally active homo- or heterodimers. MORF4 binds to transcription corepressors mSin3A and TLE, suggesting a role in transcriptional repression of genes involved in cellular senescence.
