Target Information

The de novo synthesis of pyrimidine nucleotides is essential for mammalian cell proliferation. This gene encodes a trifunctional protein involved in the first three enzymatic steps of the six-step pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway: carbamoylphosphate synthetase (CPS II), aspartate transcarbamoylase, and dihydroorotase.
This protein is regulated by the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade, indicating a direct link between MAPK activation and de novo pyrimidine nucleotide biosynthesis.
