Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from mouse ascites by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Crystallins are divided into two major classes: taxon-specific (enzyme) and ubiquitous. The ubiquitous class constitutes the major structural proteins of the vertebrate eye lens, maintaining transparency and refractive index.
During lens development, central fiber cells lose their nuclei, so crystallins synthesized early are retained for life, making them highly stable.
Mammalian crystallins are categorized into alpha, beta, and gamma families. Beta-crystallins, the most heterogeneous, can form homo- or heterodimers and aggregates.
The CRYBB2 gene encodes a beta basic group member and is clustered with beta-A4, beta-B1, and beta-B3 genes. Mutations in CRYBB2 have been associated with type 2 cerulean cataracts.
