Target Information
The human alanyl-tRNA synthetase (AARS) belongs to a family of tRNA synthases of class II enzymes. Class II tRNA synthases evolved early and are highly conserved, with 498 of the 968 residues in human AARS sharing 41% identity with the E. coli protein. These enzymes interpret the RNA code and attach specific amino acids to tRNAs containing the cognate anticodons. They consist of a catalytic domain interacting with the amino acid acceptor helix of tRNA and a secondary domain engaging with the rest of the tRNA structure.
