Target Information
This gene encodes a membrane transporter that exports free sialic acids cleaved from cell surface lipids and proteins from lysosomes.
Mutations in this gene cause sialic acid storage diseases, including:
- Infantile sialic acid storage disorder
- Salla disease (adult form)
