SPIRE2는 actin nucleation factor로 작용하며, 새 필라멘트의 느리게 성장하는 끝에 결합하여 세포 내 소포 운반에 관여합니다. 또한 세포분열 시 방추체 위치 조절 및 극성 분열에 필수적이며, DNA 손상 후 핵 내 actin 필라멘트 형성을 촉진하여 크로마틴 이동과 수복 인자 작용을 돕습니다.
