Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx proteins are categorized into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx subgroups. Except for Prx VI (1-Cys), other 2-Cys Prx isotypes exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase activity using thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH as reducing agents. Mammalian Prxs are 20–30 kDa and vary in subcellular localization: Prx I, II, and VI in cytosol; Prx III in mitochondria; Prx IV in ER and secretion; Prx V distributed in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
